Making Daughters Safe Again
Challenge

Christine had a mission to reach out to survivors of mother-daughter incest and break the silence over this form of sexual abuse. It began in 1999 when Christine, a successful undergraduate psychology student, entered therapy to begin her own process of healing from mother-daughter sexual abuse. Searching for information she discovered an eerie silence on the subject of maternal perpetrators and their victimized daughters. After moderating a very successful Yahoo! Club for survivors
Solution

Christine decided on Homestead after thoroughly researching her options. She found the lack of advertisements and the drag-and-drop SiteBuilder to be especially appealing. As soon as she signed up, she got to work, staying up nights to make her dream a reality. She set up a main site with information, resources, an application form for members, and a members-only Web site with password protection for support group meetings. Within a week, the first version of the Making Daughters Safe Again Web site was ready to welcome the global community.
Success

The Web site was officially launched on June 16, 2000, and remains the premiere Web site focused on mother-daughter sexual abuse. Currently a doctoral student in Clinical Psychology, Christine continues her important work with survivors in innovative online groups modeled after face-to-face groups. For most survivors, MDSA is their first opportunity to discover that they are not alone. Christine has already posted several articles of her own, along with the poems and artwork of her group members to help demystify and explain the challenges faced by this special group of survivors. Future plans include organizing face-to-face groups, and gaining more exposure in the mainstream media.
"Homestead has been an integral part of the success of our organization. For a very low-cost, MDSA is able to have a professional-looking Web site with a truly global reach. We welcome visitors and members from over 30 different countries, with an average of 1,000 page views a month. Homestead has allowed me to help other survivors with their healing, and that is priceless."

decided to take things to the next level. She envisioned a Web site where people from all over could educate themselves, and survivors could finally receive the support and validation they needed in a safe environment.
