Florida Writers' Association, Inc.
Challenge
Glenda Ivey was already an accomplished writer when she moved from Georgia to Florida. Her first book was out and selling rapidly on the Internet. Still, she missed the support and camaraderie she'd had as a member of the Georgia Writers' Association, and she was eager to help other writers achieve the success she already enjoyed. She envisioned a statewide, nonprofit writer's association serving both aspiring and published authors in any genre. One thing she knew for sure was that she needed to build a polished yet
Solution
Glenda was already familiar with Homestead, so she decided to use Homestead again for her new enterprise. She wanted to make use of Homestead's professional templates and graphics. She had her main page up in under an hour. Glenda continued developing the site, providing information and special features such as online registration for Association members. In May of 2002, Glenda and two other members of the FWA Board registered the nonprofit organization, launched the Web site, and the Florida Writers Association, Inc. was born.
welcoming Web presence so the Association
had some credibility. Glenda considered hiring a Web master, but letting others make important creative decisions wasn't her style.
Success
Within two months of its launch, the Association had welcomed nearly 60 new members, and the group has continued growing ever since. Despite its name, the Association has expanded to include writers from Great Britain, Poland, and Saudi Arabia. Other writing groups have noticed the site, and she has recommended Homestead to dozens of other Web masters. The site has even caught the attention of The White Thorn, the largest literary association in London. As a result, Glenda landed an interview with a prominent British periodical, and her writing career continues on its path onward and upward.
